It is not just books that can't be judged by their covers. Presents and packages, too, are not always wrapped as we might expect them to be. Manufacturers understand this. They go to great lengths to make dull products look interesting. They spend a fortune on plastic and card so that they can create a higher perceived value for their goods. Sometimes, too, precious jewels come disguised as trivial trinkets. We need keen discrimination to see beyond the superficial.
